We noticed that Henry was not listed on the 1881 census record.  Martha was shown as the head of the family, but not as a widow, which suggested Henry was still alive, but elsewhere.  We were unable to find Martha on the 1891 census, and we wondered if, in view of the records we had found on the IGI, whether Henry had emigrated to America, and Martha had followed him shortly after.

We decided to order the birth certificate for the Clara Haynes listed on the IGI, born in 1866, and as the American information listed seemed to suggest a link with Utah, we wondered if there was a connection with the Church of the Latter Day Saints (LDS), and we arranged to visit the Family History Centre at the LDS church on Victoria Road in Macclesfield.

As a result of our visit, we found out that Henry Haynes emigrated to America, leaving England on 23 October 1880, sailing on the 'Wisconsin', departing from Liverpool, and arriving in New York on 3 November 1880.  He was one of 258 LDS emigrants who were going to America to build up the strength of the Church and build the new Zion.  Henry had been baptised into the Church of the Latter Day Saints on 17 December 1856.
